Dental association President shot dead

GUJRANWALA, Oct 14: Pakistan Dental Association (PDA) president Dr Ghulam Rasul was gunned down late Saturday night by two assailants for pursuing a fraud case in Satellite Town.

Dr Ghulam Rasul was on his way home by his car after closing down his clinic at Civil Lines. As he reached near his house, two motorcyclists intercepted him and opened fire, showering the doctor with bullets. On hearing the gunshots, his brother came out of the house and found him lying in his car in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the local civil hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

It is reported that deceased had given Rs0.6 million to Kashif, Mansha and Nasir of Jandiala Baghwala village to send his brother abroad. But they did not fulfil the commitment and allegedly refused to return the money. He reported the matter to Lahore FIA who, after an initial inquiry, found the accused guilty and hinted at the registration of a fraud case. This led to the killing of Dr Ghulam Rasul who was also a former PMA president.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Meanwhile the PDA, PMA and other organizations of doctors condemned the killing and demanded that outlaws should be arrested immediately.

THRASHED: Members of a prayer leader’s family on Sunday were beaten up by four assailants over a petty issue in Jandiala Baghwala village.

Maulana Muhammad Ilyas, a village punchayat chief, had given a verdict against the accused. They lost their temper, attacked his house and beat up severely his mother Fatima Bibi, brother Abbas and sister-in-law Hajira Bibi. The injured were admitted to the local civil hospital in critical condition.

Saddar police have registered a case against Iqbal alias Nanna, Khalil, Tufail and Ghulam Nabi.

THREE KILLED: Three people, including a woman, were killed while a dozen others injured on Sunday when a speeding wagon overturned and rammed into a roadside tree near Wahando.

The wagon was coming from Gujranwala. Bashiran Bibi, Qadeer Khan and Muhammad Azam died instantaneously while a dozen others sustained serious injuries. They were shifted to Kamoke civil hospital in critical condition.

Police have instituted a case against the wagon crew.

SI BOOKED: A sub-inspector was booked on Sunday by the Anti-Corruption Establishment on the charge of corruption.

A woman of Mokhal Sundhawan was gang-raped by vagabonds a month ago. SI Rana Muhammad Siddique of Ferozwala police station allegedly received Rs5,000 as bribe from Abdul Jabbar, the husband of victim, for arresting and registering a hudood case against the accused. But he neither arrested nor registered a case against them. Jabbar reported the matter to the ACE who, after a probe, registered a case against the SI.

Smashed: Civil Lines police on Sunday arrested five members of a gang of outlaws and seized looted goods and arms from their possession.

Those arrested are: Muhammad Umer, Naseer Ahmad, Shahid Mahmood, Muhammad Ayub and Sakhawat Ali.

A case has been registered against them.
