ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: The Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam group)’s central information secretary, Begum Abida Hussain, has called upon President Gen Pervez Musharraf to make public the agreement reached between the government and the international community for elimination of terrorism.

Speaking at a press conference here, the former Pakistan’s ambassador to the US supported the government’s policy of cooperating with the US in the fight against terrorism, saying that cooperation with the international community was inevitable as the country could not afford international isolation.

Ms Hussain said Pakistan itself was a victim of terrorism and added this was an opportunity for it to benefit from the efforts for elimination of terrorism.

However, she termed it deplorable that the military action in Afghanistan had caused civilian casualties. She said the targets should be specific and well-defined. She hoped that the US, Pakistan and other allies would ensure that the civilians did not suffer.

Recalling that a military government was in place in Pakistan in late 70s when the then Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, she said the decisions taken by the then military ruler, Gen Ziaul Haq, had not been transparent.

She hoped that Gen Musharraf would take decisions in the light of public opinion and in a transparent manner.

She said the “two per cent” people protesting against the government’s decision were extremists.—PPI
