KARACHI: JI criticizes govt for supporting US

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 14: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad has criticized the government for supporting the United States in its campaign against the Taliban government.

Speaking at a big public meeting at Nishtar Park on Sunday afternoon, he condemned the US bombings on the oppressed people of Afghanistan.

The JI chief recalled that the people of Afghanistan had been facing the situation for the last 25 years and the Soviet forces, despite using their sophisticated arsenals, had failed to crush their spirit of freedom.

“Now let the US experiment all its arsenals, the Taliban had accepted their challenge and was awaiting the landing of the American army in Afghanistan to teach them a lesson,” he added.

He said it was shocking for the Muslims that Pakistan armed forces had been assigned the job to provide cover to the US army and our resources are being used against our brothers.

“The need of the hour is either the regime adopt such a strategy so that our resources are not used against our brothers or the government itself should be removed.”

Drawing the attention of the government towards the public rallies and meetings in every part of the country in support of the Taliban, he said it was a sort of referendum against the government’s policies.

Pointing to the report that Pakistan would ask the US to compensate for the cost incurred on the mobilization of its law-enforcement agencies to quell the ongoing anti-US demonstrations, Qazi Hussain termed it a shameful act.

He lamented the outcome of the OIC meeting and alleged that most of the governments in the Islamic countries were US agents.

He deplored that some people in Karachi once again were trying to create prejudice to harm the ongoing movement against the United States.

“The Ummah has become united from Indonesia to Morocco and even in Europe and the US people are raising voice against US terrorism.”

He sked the people to formulate a strategy to turn the entire population into a mujahid nation by remaining above all sorts of prejudice and through expression of solidarity and unity.

The JI leader also gave a call to boycott the US products.

The participants were holding flags of different religious parties and portraits of Osama bin Laden. Some of the banners read: “The worst face of terrorism - USA”, “Down with Bush and Blair”, Proof of US terrorism - Hiroshima, Vietnam, Somalia, Sudan, Palestine and Afghanistan.”

Other speakers pledged to continue the struggle against the US aggression on Afghanistan and wage Jehad against forces of the infidels and their supporters.

The Pak-Afghan Defence Council Sindh chief Maulana Asad Thanvi announced that on Friday after Juma prayers a “million march” would be organized from Mazaar-i-Quaid to Tower to express solidarity with the Taliban government.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Prof Ghafoor Ahmad, Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, Maulana Asad Thanvi of Pak-Afghan Defence Council, Qari Sher Afzal of JUI (F), Maulana Arshad Wazirabadi of Markazi Jamiat-i-Ahle Hadith, Engineer Ilyas Zubair of Sipah-i-Sahaba, Maulana Sulfi, Mufti Osman Yar Khan of Sawad-i-Azam Ahle Sunnat, Al-Haj Muhammad Rafi of JUP (Tayyeb) and Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui of the JI.
