Five gamblers arrested in raid

DADU, Oct 13: Five gamblers were arrested in a raid conducted by the Sehwan police near Sehwan Sharif fort on Saturday.

A police party led by sub-inspector Ghulam Sarwar Zardari raided a gambling den and arrested five gamblers, Aijaz, Muneer, Bachal, Ghulam Shabbir and Sikandar.

ROBBER KILLED: An alleged robber was gunned down during a robbery attempt in village Baghoo Teewno of taluka Mehar late Friday night.

Three robbers barged into the house of Haji Ismail Teewno, held the family members hostages in a room at gunpoint and tried to loot gold, cash and other valuables.

Haji Ismail offered resistance to the robbers on which he was beaten up severely by them.

He raised hue and cry, attracting attention of villagers who came to his help and encircled the robbers.

After exchange of fire, one robber identified as Mohammad Pirzado, aged 35 years, resident of Amber village, was killed on the spot while his two accomplices escaped leaving the looted goods behind.

The villagers also seized a double barrel gun and five cartridges from the accused.

PRESS CLUB: Army authorities on Saturday asked for clarification from the Nazim of union council Sita town after he allegedly occupied the Sita Road press club, broke its furniture and stole fax machine, telephone set.

A delegation of the press club office-bearers led by president Mohammad Nafees Solangi and vice president Budho Khan Chahwan met SSP Dadu Mushtaque Ahmed Mahar and complained that Nazim of UC Sita Road, Ali Mohammad Soomro, who is also provincial information secretary of Pakistan People’s Party (SB), with 15 gunmen including two police constables Ali Hassan Khoso and Abdul Rasool Khoso in civvies, attacked the press club three days ago and broke its furniture worth Rs50,000, stole its record, a fax machine and telephone set.

NAZIM’S VERSION: When this correspondent contacted the Nazim of UC Sita Road he said that the building was the property of Local Government department and after receiving the letter of possession for his office from the DCO Dadu, he established his office there.
