PESHAWAR: Prudence urged

Published October 14, 2001

PESHAWAR, Oct 13: The NWFP Minister for Religious Affairs Qari Roohullah Madani has asked the people to demonstrate prudence and acumen while expressing their feelings in view of the present critical situation.

He added that emotional demonstrations “deteriorate situation instead of improving it.”

Addressing a meeting of Ulema arranged by Auqaf Department here on Friday, he said such demos usually turned violent and provocative, threatening the precious lives and properties of innocent citizens.

He said, the government had not imposed ban on any public meetings but it was also a fact that protest rallies were no solution to the problem.

He said Ulema were duty bound to guide the people to restrict themselves to courtyards and express their feelings in a peaceful way so as to avoid agitation and casualties.

He said the government and people of Pakistan had always rendered tremendous sacrifices for Afghan brethren and even in the current situation the government adopted a candid stance in the larger interest of the nation and the country with the aim to protect them from the devastation of wars.

The Ulema, while expressing their views on this occasion, lauded the role of the government for taking Ulema into confidence in the present scenario.”—APP
