GUJRANWALA, Oct 11: District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha has terminated from service over 100 work-charged employees of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa).
A notification to this effect was issued here on Thursday.
It is learnt that these employees had been recruited by Wasa officers from time to time and a majority of them were reportedly receiving their salaries without performing the duty.
ASSEMBLY: The district assembly on Thursday supported the government stand on the present political situation and urged elected representatives to promote peace and harmony among masses.
The session was presided over by district Naib Nazim Haji Gohar Zaman while district Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha and members of both treasury and opposition groups addressed.
Speaking on the occasion, district Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha said that president Pervez Musharraf had taken wise decisions and we should support him to secure the future of our generation. Any mistake at this juncture could harm the integrity and solidarity of the country, he warned.
INJURED: Eleven assailants on Thursday stabbed and injured a man and two women and manhandled other family members over an old enmity in Khot village, Sadoki.
Muhammad Tariq, Salma Bibi and Irshad Bibi were present in their house when accused, including Shamshad, Javed, Ajmal, Naeem, Nadeem, Jamshed and Boota, stepped in. They attacked them with knives and axes, injuring Tariq and the women seriously. They also manhandled other family members when they came to their rescue. The injured were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
Wahando police have registered a case and are investigating.
TWO BROTHERS CRUSHED: Two brothers were crushed to death and a dozen passengers sustained injuries in an accident on the GT Road here on Thursday.
Ashraf and Bashir were heading towards the city. Near a tile manufacturing factory, a Lahore bound speeding bus (BM-595) overturned after colliding head-on with their two-wheeler. They died instantly while a dozen bus passengers received injuries. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Kamoke.
Police have registered a case against the bus crew and are investigating.
SALARIES DEMANDED: Employees of local bodies institutions on Thursday voiced their concern for not getting their salaries for the past three months.
It was learnt that employees of the district council and other defunct municipalities had not been paid their salaries since the new set up of the district government.
They demanded that the district Nazim and district coordinating officer should make arrangements for the early payment of their salaries.
