BHC Ehtesab bench dismisses Faiq’s appeal
ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: Ehtesab Bench of the Balochistan High Court in Quetta on Wednesday dismissed the appeals filed by Mir Faiq Ali Jamali ex-provincial minister, Hafeez-ur-Rehman ex-provincial Secretary Labour and Chaudhry Mohammad Ramzan ex-Deputy Commissioner against the decision of the Accountability Court.
In April 2001, Mir Faiq Ali Jamali, Hafeez-ur-Rehman and Chaudhry Mohammad Ramzan were convicted by Accountability Court for misuse of authority as public representative and government officials, to five years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs.6 million and the other two to 2 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs.0.5 million each respectively.
They were charged with causing a loss to the national exchequer to the tune of Rs.50 million in the purchase of land on exaggerated rates for the construction of labour colony at Dera Allah Yar.
The court had also decreed that in case of default of fine, the amount is to be recovered by forfeiting movable/immovable properties and assets. They were also disqualified for 21 years from holding any public office or taking any financial facility from a financial institution for a period of 10 years.
Being aggrieved of the decision all three accused filed appeals in the High Court, which subsequently have been dismissed.—APP
