KARACHI, Oct 10: Vocational institutes in Sindh will be restructured so as to enhance their training capacity and update the courses being imparted to fulfil the present-day needs and requirements of the market.

In this regard a committee was constituted earlier to submit a detailed report in this respect.

The progress made so far in this regard was reviewed at a meeting of this committee held on Wednesday with provincial labour minister, Dewan Muhammed Yousuf Farooqui, in the chair.

The meeting was informed that there were 32 vocational institutes in Sindh being run by the directorate of manpower and training, labour department, imparting training in 29 different skills to about 5000 persons in a year.

At present most of the trainees who pass out from these institutes do not get jobs mainly because the skill in which they get the training do not meet the market requirement

Mr Sohail Wajahat briefed the Minister about the restructuring plan for vocational institutes and said a plan in this regard would be submitted by the end of November.

The minister asked the directorate of manpower to furnish a detailed report about the existing vocational institutes to the committee.

The meeting was attended, among others, by secretary labour, director manpower and other officials.— APP
