KARACHI, Oct 10: Improvement and expansion work has been initiated at the Government D.J. Science College - one of the oldest educational institutions in the metropolis.
This was stated by the Principal of the college, Prof Dr Ravi Shankar, while talking to APP here on Wednesday.
He said that the work was being carried out at the behest of eminent nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, an alumni of the college, who had done his BSc in 1960.
Prof Shankar said that Dr Qadeer wanted to see his alma mater as an excellent educational institutions and had asked some of his friends to provide finance for the construction of some more classrooms and also for equipping the college laboratories.
The construction of two classrooms has been started a couple of days ago and will be completed in three to four months.
This would help address the problem of shortage of classrooms at the institution.
Prof Shankar said that the computer laboratory at the college had been set up and would start functioning in two weeks.
As many as 15 computers have been purchased by the college while five more would be acquired.
The government has also provided money for the acquisition of 20 more computers.
The D.J. College is presently facing shortage of teachers in the disciplines of English, Urdu, Microbiology and Geology. —APP
