ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: Four employees of a NGO working under the United Nations Mine Action Programme for Afghanistan were killed in an air raid on Kabul on Monday night, UN officials said here on Tuesday.

“Four staff members of an NGO, Afghan Technical Consultants, were killed at 9pm last night when their office was hit during the bombardment of Kabul,” said spokesperson for UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Afghanistan Stephanie Bunker, while speaking at a press conference here.

She said that all the four persons died on the spot and their bodies were still to be recovered from the debris of the building.

Those killed included Safiullah, Naseer Ahmed, Najeebullah and Abdul Saboor. Four ATC members were also injured in the attack and were shifted to a hospital. They were identified as Munawwar, Abdul Muqeem, Abdullah and Mohammed Shakir.

The spokesperson said that reports about killing of civilians in the attack could not be confirmed.

She said two vehicles, two power generators, codan radios, hand-held communication sets, workshop equipment, spare parts and other supplies were also damaged in the attack on the NGO’s office.

Stephanie Bunker said the UN was appealing to the international community to abide by the obligation to protect innocent civilians while military strikes were going on.
