GUJRANWALA, Oct 9: The Nazim of a union council and the tehsil city Naib Nazim expressed concern over “mismanagement” in a municipal school during a surprise visit here on Tuesday.

Around 200 girls were found taking lessons sitting on the ground.

According to a report, the Municipal Girls School, Branch 30, Mujahidpura, has been functioning in a rented building and the school administration has not paid the rent for the last six months. The owner was reported to be pressing the administration for the payment of the rent or to vacate the building.

The principal told union council No 80 Nazim Dr Khursheed Ali and tehsil city Naib Nazim Chaudhry Ehsanullah that shortage of basic facilities, including furniture, black boards, mats and others, compounded with the absence of teachers had brought the situation to such a mess.

Much to student’s plight, drinking water is not available in the school. Only two teachers had been deployed for the students of various classes, he added.

The visitors were informed that the school had been crawling on the legs of donation through self-help.

Meanwhile, the visitors assured the administration that their problems would be solved on priority.

SHOW CAUSE NOTICES: The deputy district education officer issued show cause notices to as many as 25 teachers who were found absent from duty during his surprise visit to various schools in Wazirabad, on Tuesday.

According to a report, DDEO Farman Ali Naqvi paid a surprise visit to the Kot Noora, Pir Kot, Dhelum, Banke Cheema, Waris Kot, Adilgarh, Aujalan Kalan and other neighbouring villages and learnt that some teachers had returned home before time while a few had gone without informing their headmasters.

Reportedly, three outlaws boarded a Peshawar-bound coaster in the guise of passengers from the Ghakkhar bus stop and snatched cash, jewellery and wristwatches from passengers at gunpoint. They got down from the vehicle near Kotli Sahian village on the GT Road and escaped.
