SWABI, Oct 9: Local leaders of religious and political parties have described the US-led attacks on Afghanistan as an act of terrorism and said the fate of Washington will not be different from that of the then Soviet Union.

Speaking at the Rabita programme of Abaseen Union of Journalists on Tuesday, chairman of the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz, Dr Salim, said his party had demanded investigations into the Sept 11 terror assaults in the United States to net in the real culprits, but, he added, the Americans and their allies were bent upon to further destroy the war-ravaged Afghanistan.

“The massive missile attacks should be immediately stopped,” he demanded.

The district general secretary of the PML, Dildar Khan, said his party was ready to provide financial and material help to the Taliban, and criticized the government for extending support to anti-Islamic forces.

The former provincial general secretary of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Najeem Khan, said the government had accepted all the US demands but Washington had still a leaning towards India. He feared that after the end of the strikes, the US would leave Pakistan alone to deal with the refugee and other problems.

The district Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Mohammad Usman, termed the US attacks barbarism and international terrorism.

JUI leader Maulana Mukhtiar Gul demanded of the Organization of Islamic Conference to play its role for paving the way for holding talks between the US and the Taliban to avoid bloodshed of innocent Afghans.

Syed Maqbool Shah of JUI (S), Asad Qaisar of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf, district PPP president Manfat Khan, and ANP information secretary also condemned the US attacks.
