PESHAWAR, Oct 8: A single bench of the Peshawar High Court on Monday released on bail a doctor convicted of altering postmortem report of a deceased in a murder case.
The bench comprising Justice Nasirul Mulk directed that the applicant be released on furnishing two sureties of Rs100,000 each.
The applicant, Dr Qamar Zaman was arrested few days back after he was convicted by the special judge anti-corruption, Muhiuddin Khan.
He was sentenced to one year imprisonment along with fine of Rs10,000.
The applicant was accused of changing a postmortem report on June 9, 1997, when he was serving at a hospital at Shabqadar.
A case was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 and his case was referred to the anti- corruption court.
Advocate Asadullah Chamkani appeared for the applicant and argued that he was sentenced to one year imprisonment thus he was entitle to bail under the Criminal Procedure Code.
