Hockey trials venue changed

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Oct 6: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has changed the venues of trials for NWFP and Balochistan probables to select a pool of players to form national team for the Junior World Cup qualifying round in 2004.

The decision was taken to save the players from inconvenience and travelling.

NWFP players will now appear at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium from October 16 to 20, instead of Army Stadium, Rawalpindi. Selectors A Rashid Junior, Rauf Khan, Akhlaq Usmani, Ishrat  Ali, Fazal-ur-Rahman and Zahir Shah will conduct the trials.

Balochistan players will now report at Gen Musa Hockey Stadium from October 15 to 17. Previously, the players were directed to appear at Hockey Club of Pakistan in Karachi. Raja Mohammad Ahsan, Anjum and Mohammad Naeem will hold the trials.

SADA NEWS ADDS FROM KARACHI: The coaching manager of International Hockey Federation (FIH) Thursday applauded Pakistani coaches, saying they have all the potential to join FIH panel.

“Pakistani coaches have tremendous potential and can break into FIH panel by putting concentrated and consistent efforts,” Tayyab Ikram said.

Ikram is a Pakistan national based in Macau and conducts coaching workshops for the FIH throughout the globe.
