Nudrat starts off as day’s best

By Ian Fyfe

KARACHI, Oct 6: Kamal Farooq’s three-year-old chestnut filly Nudrat, after two impressive victories under jockey Ghulam Shabbir II, starts off as our day’s best, when the Winter Gymkhana Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse Sunday.

Contesting in the fifth event with 11 other runners going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, Nudrat should complete a hat trick of victories, adding another feather to trainer Mohammad Rafiq Karim’s cap.

I’m The King will be challenging the winner throughout the race with Magical Effect and Ray Of Light joining the fray.

All in all, seven races are on the card. The first five will be contested over five furlongs and the next two over six.

The first race begins at 1-30 p.m.

Although beaten by Gambling Baby in her last stride last Sunday, the bay filly Crusade contesting in the last event on the programme, should not lose the race this time, although another impressive filly from Kamal Farooq’s yard Al Ashia, will be going all out to prove us wrong and register her fourth consecutive victory, sprinting over six furlongs for the very first time.

Gambling Princess, will be chasing these two high class runners throughout the race to grab the third spot.

The four-year-old bay gelding Rip Off ridden by jockey Dasrat, once again let down the connections, beaten by Jango, after fading away a furlong from home.
