QUETTA, Oct 5: Accountability Court No 2, Quetta, headed by Judge Nadir Khan Durrani, convicted and awarded sentence to an Ex-Assistant Controller Food and his brother in two references pertaining to corruption here on Friday.
The court, announcing the judgment, awarded eight years’ rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs17.7 million to Abdul Ali Kakar, former AFC Food, Balochistan.
The court ordered that the fine should be recovered by selling his property. In case of default in payment of fine, the accused would undergo another three years of RI.
The accused was arrested this year by the National Accountability Bureau and later a reference was filed against him in the Accountability Court by RAB on charges of amassing assets through illegal means and beyond his available resources.
The authorities concerned, on the same charges, also arrested Hamid Kakar, the father-in-law of Abdul Ali Kakar. He was also convicted and awarded one-and-a-half-year sentence and a fine of Rs0.1 million. The court also issued arrest warrants of Mohammad Naseem Kakar in the same reference who could not be arrested so far and the court declared him an absconder.
In another reference, the judge awarded five years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs113 million to Abdul Ghani Kakar, the brother of ex-assistant controller food. The reference in which he was convicted pertained to making illegal assets. The court also issued the perpetual arrest warrants of Abdul Hayee Kakar, ex-Revenue officer of Wapda.
