PESHAWAR, Oct 4: A 28-truck convoy of World Food Programme carrying wheat left for Kabul here on Thursday.
The convoy left the WFP’s warehouse on Nasirbagh Road. The trucks are carrying 500 tons of wheat and would reach Kabul within two days.
“This convoy is fourth of its kind in the present crisis in Afghanistan,” said Michael Huggins, spokesman of the programme. He stated that the first convoy having 218 tons of wheat had left for Kabul on Saturday last, which was followed by two other convoys of 500 tons each. Another convoy, he added, would leave on Friday (today).
About their target of transportation of food stuff to Afghanistan per month, Mr Michael said that they had to transport 56,000 tons of wheat to Afghanistan from their different offices including the one in Peshawar, Quetta and Tajikistan.
The official claimed that till now they had not faced any problem from the Talibans government in transportation of wheat to Afghanistan.
“We have confirmed it from our sources and from the truckers who took the food stuff that the Talibans did not create any trouble in distribution of the items,” he added.
