Police, judicial officials occupy 14 BHUs

LARKANA, Oct 4: Police and judicial officers have allegedly occupied either buildings or doctors’ residences of 14 Basic Health Units (BHUs) in different parts of Larkana district, it was learnt on good authority.

A health official after receiving instructions from the district Nazim wrote to the Sindh home secretary to get these buildings vacated but to no avail, sources disclosed.

The buildings of BHU Ghaibidero, Wagan, Khabar and government dispensary Keti Mumtaz have been occupied by policemen who have virtually converted them into police stations.

The doctors’ residences of BHU Bahram, Lashari, Gaji Khuhawar, Moenjodaro, Akil, New Gud, Dokri taluka hospital, Ratodero taluka hospital, Shdadkot maternity home and Rashid Wagan dispensary have either been occupied by police or muhktiarkar, judicial magistrate and civil judge.

In charge medical officer Moenjodaro told this scribe on Thursday two quarters of the BHU Moenjodaro had been occupied by the SHO Airport police station and the reader of the DSP Karani while the doctor’s residence had been occupied by the DSP Karani.

Dr Mohammed Sharif Shaikh, Executive District Officer (health) Larkana, on September 10 in a letter addressed to the provincial home secretary pointed towards the occupation of 14 buildings and doctors’ residences of the BHUs since long.

He said due to the non-functioning of the health centres people were facing a lot of difficulties for health care facilities in these comparatively underdeveloped areas.

The EDO health sought the home secretary’s early intervention to get these BHUs vacated so that poor and sick people could get benefit.

The letter was also sent to the DIG police and the DCO Larkana but so far no action had been taken and the situation remains unchanged.

On one hand police have illegally occupied the BHUs and on the other Wapda is continuously sending huge electricity bills to the district health office in connection with the electricity consumption in the occupied BHUs.

Despite repeated contacts with and letters to Wapda to snap such power connections, the Wapda had failed to do so.

Some villagers also have obtained illegal power connections from the transformer of BHU New Gud but Hesco authorities are pressing the health office to make payments.

Lately the district Larkana Nazim protesting over the situation voiced for the early vacation of these buildings but his demand remained unheeded even at a high forum, sources claimed.

CMC ADMISSIONS: The admissions to Chandka Medical College (CMC) in first year MBBS for the session 2001-2002 have started.

The principal Prof Sher Mohammed Shaikh announcing this on Thursday said the the last date for the submission of the admission forms was October 15.

The admission forms with the IBA test form could be obtained from the UBL Raza Shah Kabir Road branch on payment of Rs750.

The entry test would be conducted by the IBA on October 28.

FOILED: The Haidri police on Wednesday foiled a robbery bid and arrested a robber.

The police chased a robber, who was escaping after hijacking a motorcycle from Rashid Shaikh near the Khatan Bazaar, and arrested him near the Channa village on the outskirts of the city.

The robber, identified as Zamir Hussain Zon of Moharram Junijo, Shikkarpur, has been lodged at the Haidri police station.
