WASHINGTON, Oct 4: UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has said that the “tragic” incident in Srinagar this week “once again underlines the need for a political solution to the long-standing dispute over Kashmir”.
In a brief statement on the suicide bombing of Jammu and Kashmir assembly building in Srinagar on Oct 1, the Secretary General, while extending his condolences to the bereaved families, said he “utterly condemns” the attack.
He called it an “act of senseless violence” that underscored the need to eradicate terrorism “from whatever quarter”.
He made reference to an earlier Security Council resolution that called on all states to refrain from providing any form of support, active or passive, to terrorist groups. —APP
