WASHINGTON, Oct 4: Pakistan ambassador Maleeha Lodhi attended a special meeting of the Congressional Women’s Caucus on Wednesday and briefed members of the challenges facing Pakistan at this time.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s support to the international campaign against terrorism, Dr Lodhi also underlined the need to move with great care to avoid identifying the acts of a few individuals with a great religion’.
She asked for attention to be given to removing poverty, illiteracy and ignorance, which ‘breed deprivation, resentment and extremism’.
The ambassador, who was invited by the chairperson of the women’s caucus, Democrat Juanita Millender-McDonald, stressed the need for urgent humanitarian assistance to deal with the new refugee situation developing on Pakistan’s borders.
