FAISALABAD, Oct 1: The Punjab government should not wind up the Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC) because it would be inimical to the agrarian as well as national economy.

This demand was made by Farmers Association Faisalabad (FAF) president Tahir Saeed in a statement here on Sunday.

He said some vested interests had moved to abolish the PSC to achieve their ulterior motives.

The country had attained self-sufficiency in wheat, rice and cotton owing to the hectic efforts made by the PSC, he claimed.

He feared that with the abolition of the PSC, the farming community would not be able to get certified seeds of wheat, cotton, rice pulses and maize. Recently, some private firms provided the so-called certified seeds of wheat and cotton only to fleece the farmers, he added.
