GUJRANWALA, May 1: A huge quantity of wheat lying open at the grain market in Naushera Virkan was drenched in the rain two days ago.
Farmers have blamed the commission agents for failing to protect their wheat and demanded compensation.
A number of farmers told this correspondent on Thursday that they had brought a huge quantity of wheat to the grain market for sale, but the commission agents and market committee had failed to protect their wheat despite collecting hundreds of thousands of rupees from the grain markets.
They said a delegation of farmers met market committee chairman Chaudhry Khalid Pervez Virk on Wednesday, and informed him about the situation at the grain market.
KILLED: A property dealer was shot dead by robbers on resistance at his office at Pasban Colony on Thursday.
Reports said Muhammad Yaqoob was sitting at his office when some armed men came there and held him up. On resistance, they opened fire on the property dealer, killing him within minutes. Police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, a woman, Shamim Akhtar, was stabbed to death by some assailants at Madu Khalil village. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
ACCIDENTAL DEATHS: A man and a woman were killed while half a dozen others injured in various road accidents in the district on Thursday.
