KOHAT, April 29: A 17-year-old boy who suffered a head injury after falling from the roof of an Imambargah died of suffocation on way to Peshawar after the oxygen cylinder in the ambulance was found to be empty.

In a complaint lodged against the emergency staff of the Liaquat Memorial Hospital, the deceased Gulshan Ali’s relatives said Mr Ali was referred to a Peshawar hospital on Monday by the Liaquat hospital. The staff also provided a doctor to look after the patient during the journey who later turned out to be a friend of the ambulance driver and not a technical expert.

They said that when they reached the L.R.H the doctors there said the patient had died an hour ago and stated that the cause of the death was suffocation. The journey between Kohat and Peshawar was of one hour and fifteen minutes, the family members of Gulshan Ali said.

An FIR had been registered against the doctor who put the patient on the empty cylinder.

A high-level committee of doctors has also been constituted to probe into the incident and recommend action against those responsible for the death.
