KARACHI, Sept 29 The Karachi Race Club (KRC) has decided to enforce some measures for the betterment of equine sport, turf accountants and race-goers.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of all stakeholders held at the Kingree House the other day with patron-in-chief Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara in the chair.
Taking a serious note of in-and-out running, the chief patron asked the officials concerned to take notice of such happenings in future instead of ignoring foul play. It was decided that draw allocation will be carried out only through lottery while riders carrying overweight will be reprimanded. Saddling stables has been made a no-go area for all barring trainer and owner. Similarly, outsiders have been barred from jockey and scale rooms.
Through another decision, riders are strictly not allowed in the betting ring. In handicap, horses will be placed according to requirement and not like batta rating while demotion of horses will be subject to their ability.
The meeting decided to protect the interest of owners who have horses of upper division and at the same time it was recommended that five to seven pounds allowance riders may not be allowed in class VII division I and upward.
An amount of Rs3,000 and Rs6,000 were fixed for 'owner bet' and 'upset' while bookies Rs1,000 to the winning owners has been discontinued forthwith.
It was also decided that only written complaint will be entertained about any aspect of the race.
Meanwhile, Tauseef Ali Siddiqui has been assigned to supervise the handicap for the races.
The meeting was attended among others by chairman KRC, Kamal Afsar, Yousuf Ali Khan, Irfan Mehdi, Kamal Farooq (members), Syed Munawwar Hussain, Ahmed Noroze, Munaf, Malik Ashqeen, M. Aslam, Najeeb, Nafees, Iqbal Ahmed, Fasih Ghori (turf accountants), Syed Ayaz Hussain Shah Rashdi (secretary), Syed Ali Akbar Shah Rashdi (deputy secretary), Tauseef Ali Siddiqui, Rizwanuddin Qureshi and Jawaid Akhtar (staffers).
