ISLAMABAD, April 28: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Justice (Retd) Saleem Akhtar has asked Regional Commissioner of Income Tax (RCIT), Corporate Region, Karachi to decide the assessment case of a complainant on merit shortly.

An official announcement issued on Monday said that the Ombudsman directed the RCIT to decide the issue afresh after providing an opportunity of being heard to the complainant in the light of CBR instructions.

The FTO further said to decide the case within 30 days of his order and the compliance report should be produced to his office within a week.

The decision was taken on the complaint of M/s Hilal Travel Services, Karachi, who alleged that the RCIT has passed an order and his return of income for the assessment year 2002-03 has been selected for total audit, which qualified for self-assessment.
