RAWALPINDI, April 25: Inquiry report concerning a PIA pilot, who had allegedly helped a passenger bypass immigration check at Islamabad Airport, has been sent to the airline’s chairman, a source said on Friday.

The Karachi-based pilot had reportedly come to Islamabad to help a passenger who was later identified as Nawab Iqbal. The pilot posed as Iqbal’s cousin and assisted him in checking-in for a London flight (PK-785) last Saturday, the source said.

The passenger, who appeared to be an Afghan national, had been cleared by the immigration authorities, but, was stopped from proceeding to the aircraft after he failed to correctly mention his residential address written on his passport, the source said.

After the incident came to light, an inquiry against the pilot was initiated by the PIA authorities.

The source said the passenger was handed over to the FIA passport cell where he disclosed that he was a resident of Westridge. During questioning, the passenger claimed that he had paid Rs400,000 to a travelling agent, who had arranged required documents for him.
