KARACHI, April 25: The Sindh government has returned the charge of the Sindhi Adabi Board to its parent education department, back from the Culture, Education and Tourism, Department, with immediate effect, according to an official notification.
The board, was established in 1951 under the Education Department, and was made an autonomous body in 1957, with its own constitution and rules of business, registered under the Societies Act of 1860.
The board is one of the oldest bodies of Pakistan and its achievements in the field of literature have been recognized by European countries, as well as by the renowned scholars, as Prof Annemarie Schimmel, Simon Digby, Christopher Shackle and David Cheezeman.
The board has published more than 300 books on history, literature, folklore, lexicography, mysticism and has translated and published works from other languages, including Urdu, Sindhi, Persian, Arabic and English.
The first ever Persian translation of the Holy Quran in South Asia has also been published by the board.—APP
