CHITRAL, April 24: The government-run schools in the district are at the lowest ebb due to the unavailability of textbooks and the recent general transfers of teachers.

The government has recently switched over to the English medium from Urdu but there are no textbooks available in the market.

The booksellers, when contacted, said that course books were not available even in Peshawar, and if there were any they cannot brought to Chitral due to the closure of Lowari top road.

Also, the panicky situation due to the transfer orders issued last month has affected the studies.

The recently-formed teachers federation has turned down the transfer orders. Meetings between the education department, the elected reperesentatives and the federation activists are being held daily to find a solution to the problem.

The situation took a new turn when a local MNA Moulana Chitrali asked the teachers to continue at their present stations until further orders.

But the education department insists that the teacher obey the transfer orders.
