PARIS, Dec 7: Mr Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN envoy who brokered a deal on an interim administration in Afghanistan, said on Friday he hoped to see a multinational peacekeeping force “as soon as possible”.

“The authorities at the moment, the Northern Alliance, have accepted the principle of this force and I imagine it would be useful to have it there as soon as possible,” said the United Nations special envoy to Afghanistan.

Brahimi said Europe and the 15-nation European Union in particular, now had to follow up with reconstruction aid to Afghanistan.—Reuters
