KARACHI, April 22: A police mobile van was stolen near Toll Plaza on Tuesday, and later it was recovered by the Motorway police near Nooriabad on Super Highway.
According to the Motorway police, a message was aired through police control that a police mobile van (SP-5696) of Garden police headquarters was stolen and the thief drove it towards Hyderabad. The cops manning the mobile van had gone for a cup of tea when it was stolen.
The motorway police chased the mobile van and signalled it to stop near Nooriabad. The thief, later identified as Saeed Ahmed, accelerated the vehicle’s speed and it overturned. The police arrested Saeed and recovered the police mobile van. The van and Saeed were handed over to the Karachi police.
MOTORCYCLIST DIES: A motorcyclist died when he was knocked down by a passenger coach on Jinnah bridge on Tuesday.
The police said Shaikh Mohammed Anwar, aged 40, was riding his motorcycle when a Muslim coach collided with the motorcycle.
Anwar died on the spot.
The body was sent to Civil Hospital for autopsy.
The police impounded the coach, but the driver escaped.
ROBBERIES: Four robberies were committed in the city on Tuesday.
Bandits barged into Faiz Mohammed’s house in Model Colony, held the family hostage at gunpoint and got away with cash, jewellery and other valuables.
Dacoits looted cash, jewellery and other valuables from Ashfaq Ali’s house in Khokhrapar.
Bandits dashed into Gul Sher’s house in Korangi Industrial Area, held the occupants of the house hostage at gunpoint and got away with cash, jewellery and other valuables.
DIE OF BURNS: A mother of two who had suffered serious burns five days ago died at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Tuesday.
The police and hospital sources said Shamim Begum suffered serious burns when her clothes caught fire while cooking at her house in sector-D of New Karachi.
An 18-year-old boy who suffered burns in his house in Korangi died at Civil Hospital.
The police said Ghulam Husain was preparing tea when his clothes caught fire.
