KARACHI, April 21: A man was shot dead in Paradise Palace Apartment on Sarwar Shaheed Road early Monday morning.

The police said a woman, Sana Jabbar, aged 24, who identified herself as the dead man’s (Karim Khan) wife, informed neighbours about the killing at 5am. Neighbours informed the police.

Quoting Sana, the police said Karim had told her that Saleem Bhai would come to collect some thing. When the door bell rang she thought that the same person had come to the apartment, so she opened the door.

Three unidentified men barged into the apartment and shot Karim in his sleep.

The police said Karim Khan, aged 55, had an apartment also in PECHS block-3 where his three children, Azeem Khan, aged 21, Erum, aged 20, and Ainee, aged 10, by his first wife lived. Karim often spent weekends at Paradise Palace apartment.

The police said Karim was a close associate of Shoaib Khan.

The police said the assailants had pumped three bullets into Karim’s body: one into the head and two into the chest from a very close range. A pistol was used in the attack and it was fired from such a close range that the bullets had pierced through the body and had their effect on the floor also.

Quoting Sana, the police said a few days back Karim had shown his pistol to her.

The police recovered a pistol from the spot. No empties were, however, found at the spot.

The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

The police have detained Sana for further questioning.

The police said Karim’s son Azeem Khan had lodged an FIR (52/2003) at Artillery Maidan police station in which he had named Khalid Shahanshah for the killing of his father.

Azeem told the police that a day earlier Khalid had made threatening calls to his father.

An elderly woman and her granddaughter were found murdered in their house in Mubina Town.

The two women were strangled with scarves and there were no apparent sign of struggle. The family had some visitors for whome meal was also prepared.
