PESHAWAR, April 21: NWFP Chief Minister Mohammad Akram Khan Durrani and provincial Health Minister Inayatullah Khan have developed differences over the appointment of doctors on high administrative posts, sources in the health department claimed on Monday.

Mr Durrani, who belongs to the JUI (F), wanted a BPS-18 doctor, at present working as agency surgeon, Bajaur agency, to be posted as director health, Fata.

But Mr Khan, representing the Jamaat-i-Islami in the provincial cabinet, had refused to send his summary to Mr Durrani for approval, the sources said.

Mr Khan argued that the annual confidential report of the doctor in question was too bad and he could not be appointed on the high-profile administrative job, according to the sources.

The same doctor, hailing from Dera Ismail Khan, the native town of JUI (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, is the scion of an influential family which happens to be very close to the Maulana’s family.

Maulana Attaur Rehman, the brother of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, personally came to the health minister to get the doctor appointed as director, Fata, the sources said.

However, the health minister, in a summary to the CM, refused to appoint the doctor to the post, according to the sources.

The CM reportedly returned the summary to the minister, asking him to forward the case to him. The minister has not yet complied with the instruction. The sources claimed that he wanted a doctor of his choosing to be appointed to this post.

The position fell vacant following the promotion of Dr Mohammad Iqbal to BPS-20. The occupant of this post enjoys immense administrative as well as financial powers, unlike those who hold a similar post in settled areas.

In an effort to make the health minister comply with his instructions, the CM has withheld the decision on the replacement of DG Health, NWFP, for which a summary had recently been moved by the health minister.
