KARACHI, April 21: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Monday.

A man died in a hit-and-run accident in Shershah.

The police said Mohammed Khateeb, aged 55, was run over by a speeding vehicle while walking across the main road. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

An unidentified man died in a road accident in Jamshed Quarters. The police said the victim was hit by a speeding vehicle near Jamshed Quarters No 3.

WOUNDED: A head constable of the traffic police and a pedestrian were injured when occupants of a taxi opened fire on them in DHA on Monday.

The police said the traffic police tried to stop a taxi on main Sunset Boulevard. But occupants of the cab opened fire on the police. Head constable Mohammed Arif and a pedestrian, Latif, were injured in the firing.

The occupants of the taxi tried to escape but at some distance the cab ran out of gas. The police apprehended one of the suspects. Arif and Latif have been admitted to the JPMC.
