MIRPURKHAS, April 19: The district and sessions judge the other day issued show-cause notices to three police officials of the Digri police station for keeping two men in illegal detention and torturing them.
Shamsul Haq had filed an application, stating therein that the Digri police had picked up Mohammad Irshad Arain, a journalist of the Mirwah town, and Asmatullah Jutt, a supervisor at the Mirwah telegraph office, in an old case and tortured them.
The judge, Mohammad Iqbal Arain, issued notices to SHO Bashir Ahmad Mangi, SI Ghulam Mustafa Thebo and ASI Amin Mari.
The police officials on Wednesday appeared before the court but did not produce the detainees.
The detainees were brought to the court after the judge called for their immediate production.
The detainees pleaded not guilty and said they were tortured by the police.
The court released the detainees on personal bond.
The SHO tendered an apology.
The court, however, issued show-cause notices to the three policemen and directed them to appear before the court with the record of the detainees.
SI DETAINED: The district and sessions judge detained a sub-inspector of the Tando Bago police station in the court for several hours the other day for arresting two persons in the court premises.
Investigation officer Barkat Ali Khwaja had arrested two persons in the court premises few days back and took them to the Tando Bago police station.
Lawyers present in the court lodged their protest with the sessions judge, demanding action against the policeman.
The court issued notice to the SI and directed him to produce the arrested persons. The police official produced the persons who were released by the court.
However, the SI was detained for several hours and was released after he tendered an apology.
The court also issued a show-cause notice to the SI, asking him to reply within seven days.
