KARACHI: Jobless man, housewife commit suicide
KARACHI, April 18: A jobless young man and a housewife committed suicide in the city on Friday.
The police said Afzal Khan, aged 32, resident of Anjum Colony, Baldia Town, killed himself by consuming acid. He had been jobless for the past three months. Because of joblessness he used to have frequent arguments with his wife. He consumed acid early Friday morning.
He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
A housewife committed suicide by setting herself on fire late Thursday night in her house in sector 11-D of New Karachi.
The police said Shamim Bibi, mother of two, set herself on fire after she doused herself with kerosene. Her husband, Aslam, a watchman, was on duty in North Nazimabad at the time of the incident.
Shamim Bibi’s neighbours took her to Civil Hospital where she died soon.
She had suffered 100 per cent burns.
ROAD ACCIDENT: A young man died in a hit-and-run accident in Jamshed Quarters on Friday.
The police said Sunny, aged 20, was knocked down by unknown vehicle on Jehangir Road No 3 while walking across the road.
He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Sunny was resident of Martin Quarters.
DIES: A young man died of poisoning in Paposhnagar early Friday morning.
The police said Nasir Abbas, aged 22, had returned home from Sadiqabad early Friday morning and died soon after in a hospital.
Quoting the family sources, the police said someone had given him poison in the train. Soon after he reached his home his condition deteriorated. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.
BODIES RECOVERED: Bodies of two fishermen were fished out of the sea on Friday. They drowned in the sea on the same day.
The Docks police said Majeed, aged 26, lost his balance at a fishing boat and fell into the sea. His body was fished out by navy divers and Edhi volunteers.
The police said the body was sent to Thatta, the dead man’s native town.
Another fisherman, Mohammed Kamal, aged 20, resident of Machhar Colony, drowned in the sea. His body was fished out of the sea.
DRUG SEIZED: The Anti-narcotics Force (ANF) has arrested a drug trafficker in the city and recovered 14kgs of fine quality charas from his possession, adds APP.
According to an ANF press release issued here on Friday, the Force Commander of the ANF, Brig Saleem Akhund, received a tip-off that a gang of drug peddlers are active in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
The ANF constituted a special team, that raided a place in Essa Nagri area and arrested Saleem Lodhi.
Another drug peddler, Abid Jan, escaped. He left behind a bag containing 11kgs of charas. It was seized.
Lodhi provided clues to more narcotics and the special team is conducting raids. The ANF team raided an apartment in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and recovered 153kgs of high quality charas.
The ANF presented Lodhi in a court and sought his remand.
The ANF arrested a drug peddler, Raham Dil, in Hyderabad near Sindh Law College.
