Occupation root cause of crisis: Pakistan

UNITED NATIONS, April 17: Pakistan on Wednesday told the UN Security Council that the root cause of the problem in the Middle East remains foreign occupation of Arab territories.

Addressing the Security Council meeting convened to consider the situation in the Middle-East, Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram said: “In such a situation repression by the occupiers and resistance by the occupied people is inevitable.”

“The policies of Israel in response to the resistance of the occupied people are illegal, inhuman and ultimately counter-productive. Without the prospects of some forward movement on the political front, it is difficult to envisage how the current cycle of violence could be controlled,” Akram said.

“Pakistan, therefore, calls for implementation of 242, 338 and 1397 without qualifications,” Akram reaffirmed.

Underscoring that peace in the “holy land” (Al-Quds) continues to be wrecked by unnecessary violence, Akram stressed that the suffering of the Palestinian people creates deep impact on the people of Pakistan and other Muslim people.
