UK-Pakistan chamber to promote trade relations

LONDON, May 22 The UK-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UKPCCI) has promised to play its role for the community and in enhancing trade relations between Britain and Pakistan.

“UKPCCI believes that a million strong Pakistanis living in Britain have been extremely useful for the economy of their adopted country and has been supporting Pakistan as well all the time through their remittances and other means,” said the chamber president Dr Ashraf Cohan.

The UKPCCI president, who is also a member of Punjab Assembly, was speaking at a reception hosted by the Pakistan High Commission for the chamber members on Thursday evening.

Pakistan High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan called for greater efforts to promote trade and investment between the two countries and said UKPCCI had an important role to play in this regard.

The high commissioner underscored the importance of enhancing the trade ties and expressed optimism that the chamber will leave no stone unturned to help the High Commission in its endeavours to promote investments and trade activities.

The high commissioner called upon the chamber members to seize the opportunity of investing in Pakistan, which has offered a number of fields for trade and investment.

Dr Chohan speaking about the crisis Pakistan is passing through said this is not the first time that the country has had to face such a situation. “Pakistan has survived through a number of difficult times and I am sure that the country will not only survive again this time as well but achieve the goal for which it was created,” he asserted.

He said Pakistan is a resilient country which has all the potential to bounce back from adverse times and put herself back on the road to progress and development.

On this occasion, he also announced a personal donation of one thousand pounds sterling towards the Prime Minister Special Fund for the internally displaced persons.

He further suggested that both the high commission and UKPCCI jointly host the Independence Day this year to join hands and support Pakistan.
