DADU, Dec 6: The councillors of Arazi union council, villagers and students of primary and high schools blocked Dadu-Sehwan section of the Indus Highway for seven hours in protest against the raid of Hesco officials at the houses of the UC Nazim and councillors on Thursday.

A Hesco team had paid surprise visits at the Arazi village near Sehwan Sharif and found illegal connections at houses of UC Nazim Ghulam Hadi Shah, his brother Syed Aijaz Ali Shah and councillors Haroon Sehto and Syed Ali Gohar Shah. The team disconnected the illegal connections.

In protest, the villagers and councillors gathered and allegedly assaulted Hesco officials. They also reportedly attempted to set ablaze a vehicle (AE-0005) of Sehwan sub-division SDO.

The school students boycotted their classes and joined the demonstration of villagers at Sehwan-Dadu section of the Indus Highway, which was blocked for seven hours.

The protesters were led by Arazi UC Nazim Syed Ghulam Hadi Shah and PML (N) leader Syed Aijaz Ali Shah.

The traffic was restored when District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar arrived on the spot and assured that the matter would be taken up with the Hesco authorities.

When contacted, Hesco Sehwan SDO Tufail Ahmed Shaikh said Ghulam Hadi Shah and his brother Aijaz Ali Shah were defaulters of Rs800,000 and their connections had been disconnected two years ago, but illegal power connections were found at their houses during the raid.
