SAHIWAL, Sept 26 An Anjuman-i-Mazareen Punjab convention on Sunday demanded allocation of the military farms land to the tenants.
“The provincial government should fulfill its promise of allocating military farms to the landless tenants who otherwise will launch long march from Rahim Yar Khan,” participants in the convention held at Arifwala-Pakpattan bypass demanded.
Tenants (including women) from Khanewal, Okara, Jhang, Arifwala and Multan attended the convention which was hosted by the Anjuman-i-Mazareen's local units.
The tenants unanimously demanded possession of the military farms land which, they claimed, were cultivated by their forefathers. Earlier, they said, the AMP had cancelled its long march (to be taken off from Khanewal) on the provincial government's assurance that they would be granted ownership rights in five districts within 10 days.
They reminded the chief minister of his commitment, reiterating that “the army has illegally occupied the agricultural farms since 1943 and it is not paying a penny for it to the provincial government - the actual owner of these farms”.
Also present on the occasion were PML-N provincial joint secretary Malik Arshad and Ehsanul Haq who assured the tenants that they would request the chief minister to resolve their matter.
A resolution demanding ownership rights for the tenants, cancellation of FIRs and removal of other injustices against them was unanimously adopted.
