200-foot breach occurs in canal

SUKKUR, April 14: A large wheat cultivated area was inundated in the Maleerani village on Monday after a 200-foot-wide breach occurred in the Nolakhi Canal at RD-18 near Ranipur.

Local residents, when contacted by this correspondent, criticized the irrigation authorities for their inaction despite being informed about the weak spots in the canal embankment.

The breach was plugged by the officials of the irrigation department in collaboration with the residents of the village after six hours.

Woman killed: A woman, Ms Sassi, was killed and a man, Abdul Ghafoor, was injured on Monday after Ali Madad, husband of the woman, attacked them with an axe in Daharki.

The injured man, Abdul Ghafoor, was later shifted to a hospital in Daharki in a serious condition.

Ali Madad, however, managed to escape from the scene of the crime.

Meanwhile, a young girl (J) was criminally assaulted on Monday by three unidentified persons while she was working in a farm.

She was shifted to a hospital in Daharki in unconscious condition.
