HYDERABAD, April 14: A court of law on Monday refused to grant more remand in police custody of an accused, Abdul Rehman Khoso, who had allegedly tried to commit suicide in the lock-up of the Kotri police station on Friday evening.
The accused is lying in the Taluka hospital, Kotri.
The Nara prison authorities also declined to take custody of Khoso unless his condition improved after the court remanded him to judicial custody.
His remand was to be obtained in a 13-D Arms Ordinance case as he was found possessing a Kalashnikov.
The Kotri police insisted before the relevant court of law that the accused has not been interrogated as yet because he had tried to commit suicide; therefore, he should be remanded in police custody.
However, the court declined.
According to the Kotri police, Khoso tried to commit suicide by inflicting injuries on his abdomen with a sharp blade.
The Kotri police had arrested Khoso in Sikandar Colony, Kotri, and locked him up in the Kotri police station.
The additional DPO, Jamshed Qazi, has suspended the munshi of the Kotri police station, Nek Mohammad, and Constable Allah Bux, who was on lock-up duty. It could not be ascertained as to who had provided the blade to Khoso.
