VEHARI, April 13: Maulana Fazlur Rahman said on Sunday that the MMA’s stand on the Legal Framework Order had been unchanged.
Talking to newsmen, he said the MMA believed that no individual had the right to amend the constitution. “Even the Supreme Court cannot empower anyone to do so.”
He said during talks, it was explained to the government representative in clear terms that Gen Pervez Musharraf should quit the post of the COAS in the larger interest of country. Only a full time COAS could concentrate on the defence of the country.
He condemned the government offer of cooperation to the US in its war against Afghanistan. He said the government received the payment of the Afghans’ blood by getting the billion dollar debt written off.
He criticized the indifferent attitude of the Muslim rulers during Iraq war.
According to him, the government even did not condemn the US aggression. He said the US invasion had provided a pretext to bigger countries to attack smaller states.
The Maulana said the US had trained the Arabs to fight against the former USSR in Afghanistan, who were now challenging it as suicide bombers in Iraq.
He said the MMA would send medicines and food items for the help of war-affected Iraqis.
The MMA leader said the government had miserably failed to provide any relief to the poor people.
Later, Maulana Fazlur Rahman visited the JUI office in Tibba Sultanpur, Jamia Ashrafia in Vehari and Taleemul Quran in Mailsi. Local leaders of the MMA accompanied the Maulana.
