PESHAWAR, April 12: The NWFP government has decided to induct Senator Prof Khursheed Ahmed and Prof Mohammed Abbas of the Jamaat-i-Islami into the board of directors of the Bank of Khyber, sources told Dawn.
A notification by the competent department of the provincial government would shortly be issued in this regard.
The State Bank had okayed the name of Prof Mohammed Abbas for induction against one of the vacant seats on the board of directors.
“The notification would be issued after fulfilling certain minor procedural requirements necessitated by the SBP,” said the sources.
Apart from him, another JI leader Senator Khursheed Ahmed is also being taken on the board of directors of the BoK-whose managing director Sajjid Ali Abbasi was removed from the office on Saturday last on instructions of senior NWFP minister Siraj-ul-Haq, representing the JI in the MMA-led NWFP government.
The name of Senator Prof Khursheed Ahmed, said the sources, had recently been sent to the NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani for his approval following which the same would be forwarded to the State Bank for consent.
Three seats on the nine-member board of directors of the BoK are vacant, including two posts required to be filled in by the private sector’s representatives.
The nine-member board of directors involves four each representatives from the private sector and the provincial government and one representative of the international finance institution DEG which has over 10 per cent share in the provincial public sector BoK.
