LAHORE, March 3 Operation of five trains will remain suspended from Karachi to upcountry destinations till resumption of rail traffic on down track near Nawabshah.
Routes of three more trains will be curtailed for Thursday (today) when another three trains will not operate to Karachi, says a Railways spokesman.
The trains that will not operate from Karachi include Khyber Mail (1-Up), Karachi Express (15-Up), Millat Express (17-Up), Bahauddin Zakariya Express (25-Up) and Sukkur Express (145-Up).
Khyber Mail (2-Down) will not operate from Peshawar Cantt to Karachi Cantt, Bahauddin Zakariya Express (26-Down) from Multan Cantt to Karachi City and Fareed Express (38-Down) from Lahore to Karachi.
Tezgam will operate from Lahore instead of Rawalpindi, Awam Express from Lahore instead of Peshawar and Pakistan Express from Faisalabad instead of Rawalpindi to Karachi on Thursday (today).
Rail traffic on up track was restored at 1215pm on Wednesday while work on down track was under way.
Since normalisation of traffic might consume a couple of days, the passengers should seek information from inquiry number 117 regarding departure or arrival time of trains before coming to the station, the spokesman said.
Derailment of a goods train near Nawabshah on Tuesday at around 11am had resulted in suspension of rail traffic on up and down tracks.
SUSPENDED Five employees of railways Sukkur division were suspended from service for negligence that caused derailment of a goods train near Nawabshah, according to preliminary inquiry.
The Railways general manager (operations) said further investigation was under way against the Sukkur divisional commercial officer, assistant engineer, two commercial inspectors and one permanent way inspector.
