Journalist’s brother killed

SHEIKHUPURA, April 11: A youth was killed by another over a petty issue on Friday evening.

According to sources, the deceased, Salim Zafar (18), younger brother of local journalist Nadim Zafar, had gone to a barber shop in his native village Ghang, where he quarrelled with the accused, Nadim, over some petty matter.

The accused attacked Salim with a scissor, killing him on the spot. The body was sent to the city mortuary.

Bhekhi police have registered the case.

Local journalists have protested against the incident and demanded early arrest of the alleged killer.

ARRESTED: The A-division police have arrested two persons on charges of attempted murder in connection with the thrashing given to a former Sheikhupura Press Club president, which left him severely injured.

Sources said the journalist, Hamid Bhatti, was on his way home from his friend’s house on Bhakhi Road, when he was intercepted by four masked people and subjected to severe physical torture. He sustained serious injuries, fell unconscious and was admitted to the local DHQ hospital.

The local journalists’ community took serious note of the incident and urged the DPO to arrest the culprits. Police teams were constituted to conduct raids, which led to the arrest of two of the accused, Lalu Baloch and Iftikhar Esti.
