KOHAT, Oct 2: Chairman of the Council for Defence of Pakistan and Afghanistan and chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Maulana Samiul Haq has said the rulers have failed to defend the ideological frontiers of the country and vowed to launch a movement to remove them.
He said that US war against Afghanistan was a fight between two civilisations and not just between two states which had been given the colour of terrorism. “We have to be ready for the consequences if our government joins hands with those against our own brothers,” he added.
He was speaking at a public rally here on Tuesday. The rally was also addressed by leaders of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F), Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Sunni Tehrik.
Expressing his reservations about the foreign policy, he said Iran, the Central Asian States, Russia and our most trusted friendly country, China were watching the situation very carefully before taking any decision. On the other hand our rulers had offered every kind of support to the West.
Maulana Samiul Haq criticized the government decision of allowing US-led military forces to attack Afghanistan.
He alleged that the government had allowed the US to use its air bases in Kohat and Rajanpur and said that it had become obligatory on the Muslims to defend these places at all costs.
The participants burnt the effigy of President Bush and raised slogans for the solidarity of the country.
