PESHAWAR, April 11: The Awami National Party (ANP) has accused the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal of misleading the masses over the question of the Legal Framework Order (LFO) and uniformed president.

In a press release issued here on Friday, the party’s Information Secretary Haji Mohammed Adeel stated that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leadership had reached an agreement with the federal government over the LFO and Gen Pervez Musharraf’s decision to simultaneously hold the offices of president and chief of army staff (COAS).

The ANP claimed that the religious parties conglomerate had also agreed to accept the president to continue as the COAS till December 2004.

“Had the MMA not accepted Gen Musharraf as president, NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani would not have received him (president) on Thursday at the airport,” said Haji Adeel.

The ANP also accused the MMA of deviating from its manifesto announced at the time of elections. The religious parties conglomerate was making compromises, therefore it tabled a mild resolution in Senate against the invasion of Iraq, he added.

The party also accused the MMA of ignoring recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology.
