Police accused of torturing suspect

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, March 13 A group of people of Lakha Road took out a procession and staged a demonstration on Thursday to protest against police torture.

A large number of people hailing from Mianwali settled in Lakha Road since 1940s, led by Saeed Mir and Abdul Qayoom, took out the procession from Khan Zaman Pathan Mohalla and after marching on different roads reached at the Hyderi chowk where they staged a demonstration against the Lakha Road investigation police.

They complained that Sakhawat Pathan, a landlord, was involved in a murder case of his servant in 2005 was arrested by the investigation police on Sunday.

They alleged that investigation police incharge Ghulam Mustafa Sand has severely tortured Sakhawat by burning his legs and back with cigarettes and beating him as a result of which he fell unconscious.

They demanded of the higher authorities for inquiry and action against the incharge investigation Lakha Road police.

After their protest police produced Sakhawat in court for remand but magistrate Altaf Dayo sent him to judicial lock-up with the directive for his treatment.
