LARKANA, April 10: Teachers on Thursday decided to suspend academic activities in the Dokri campus of the Z. A. Bhutto Agriculture College until rustication of students, who had attacked teachers a day ago and called for provision of security to the teaching staff.

This was decided at a meeting of the Sindh Agriculture University Teachers’ Association, which was chaired by Prof Zubair Abro, joint secretary of the association.

Sources said that the association had called for the immediate rustication of two students, Ayaz Ali Solangi and Khalil Ahmed Solangi.

The college’s director administration arrived in Larkana and held a meeting with the district coordination officer, Sabhago Khan Jatoi and the DPO, Noor Ahmed Pechuho. He was accompanied by principal of the college Dr R. B. Mirbahar on the occasion.

The director and the principal of the college called for setting up a permanent police check-point to avoid any mishap in the future.

Briefing the DPO, they alleged that students were frequently used to misbehaving and insulting the teachers, saying that teachers had acted in self-defense.

Students, who had earlier met with the DPO, had accused teachers of highhandedness, the DPO said.

The DPO ordered to deploy a permanent police picket at the college’s campus and asked the SHO, Bakrani, Noorullah Khoso, to look after the situation in this regard.

Two teachers — assistant professor Ayaz Abro as well as students advisor and lecturer Syed Abrar Shah — were injured on Wednesday after being allegedly attacked by a group of students in the college here.

Students had reportedly barged into the room of the students advisor and attacked him after exchanging hot words over the acceptance of their demands.

It was learnt that one of the students, Khalil Ahmed Solangi, was also injured in the inci-dent.

Sources said that students were affiliated with the Jeay Sindh Students Federation.

DCO: The executive district officers have been asked to cooperate with the elected representatives, including the Nazims, for the smooth functioning of matters related with development in the district.

These instructions were issued by the district coordination officer, Larkana, Subhago Khan Jatoi, to the EDOs as well as the district officers during a meeting.

The DCO also asked them to develop close coordination with the federal and provincial departments for efficient handling of matters in this regard
