PESHAWAR, April 10: A local court on Thursday convicted a woman of drug pushing and sentenced her to five years imprisonment with Rs10,000 fine.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Pir Buksh observed that the prosecution had proved its case against accused Razda.

The accused, a resident of Akora Khattak, was arrested by the Pishtakhara police on April 6, 2002. They had recovered 14 kilograms of charas from her possession.

The accused was charged under section 9(c) of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act. Under the provision, the sentence for smuggling more than 10 kilogram of narcotics is either death or life imprisonment.

Since the accused was a female the court had adopted a lenient view while sentencing her, the judge observed.
